School Holidays 2026: Students across India are likely to see a cluster of festival-linked breaks in the last week of August and through September 2026, with key holidays including Milad-un-Nabi (Eid-e-Milad), Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi, according to official 2026 holiday calendars and government notifications.
As per the CBSE school holiday list 2026 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the following dates have been announced as school holidays:
- August 25 (Tuesday): Eid‑e‑Milad
- August 28 (Friday): Raksha Bandhan
- September 4 (Friday): Janmashtami
Jaypee Public School, Greater Noida; SKS World School, and several other CBSE-affiliated schools follow the same calendar. However, students and parents must note that some schools have announced August 26 as a holiday for Eid-e-Milad, BGS Vijnatham School being one of them.
Noting state holidays in Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Goa and others, parents must note that Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi falls on September 14, 2026. Some calendars also list Onam in late August or early September.
As per reports, Onam 2026 will be celebrated in Kerala on August 26. This day is Thiruvonam, the main day of Onam. First Onam falls on August 25, 2026, followed by Third Onam on August 27 and Fourth Onam on August 28, 2026.
However, because these are festivals and restricted holidays, not all schools will be closed on every date, and some may compensate with working Saturdays or adjusted timetables. School closures may differ from state to state, board-to-board and from school to school.
To avoid confusion, parents and students should check the official 2026 holiday notification issued by their state education department or school management.
It is also advisable to refer to the school’s academic calendar on official websites or circulars, especially for CBSE, ICSE and private schools that may follow their own schedule.
