The row over names for rival Trinamool factions for the October 6 Bengal bypolls is settled for now. It is a stop-gap arrangement till a final decision is made by the poll body as to which of the two is the “real” Trinamool.
The group led by Mamata Banerjee is allotted “Mamata All India Trinamool Congress” name and “Football Player” symbol, while the group led by Arup Roy, who was named the party chairperson, was allotted “Democratic Trinamool Congress” name with “Envelope” as its symbol.
To place both the rival groups on an even keel and to protect their rights and interests, the poll body on Thursday, in an interim order, directed the competing groups not to use the party name and “Flowers and Grass symbol” during the Bengal bypolls.
Both groups were asked to submit preferred names and free symbols, three each, by 11 am on Friday.
Shortly after the submissions, the poll body announced the names and symbols for the rival groups.
