Maharashtra CET 2026: Colleges To Fill Vacant Seats After CAP Rounds, Check New Guidelines

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has issued new guidelines for colleges to fill seats left vacant after the completion of all Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds. The directions apply to courses under the Department of Technical Education. As per the latest notice, colleges can start institutional-level admissions only after all CAP rounds are over. Vacant seats must be filled according to the applicable admission rules and the inter-se merit of eligible candidates.

Colleges must publish the admission rules, procedure and prospectus for institutional-level admissions on their official websites. Candidates can apply directly to the respective college. If a college does not accept direct applications, candidates can submit institutional-level option form through their CAP portal login. Colleges will consider the applications received while preparing the merit list.

The institutional-level merit list must be prepared based on eligible applications and the list of candidates provided by the CET Cell. Colleges need to display merit list on their notice board and official website.

Admissions against vacant seats must follow a procedure. Colleges cannot offer seats outside the applicable rules or ignore the inter-se merit of candidates.

The college must update the admission details on the CAP portal after an institutional-level admission is confirmed. The CET Cell has also cautioned candidates and parents against individuals or intermediaries who claim to arrange admissions. Students should not accept such offers before the completion of the CAP rounds.

Candidates should verify admission information through official college websites and CET Cell. The notice also urges students to be careful about misleading claims shared through social media, private consultants and unofficial links.
